Nodding, drifting, fitfully lashing
Out to silence clamoring bells
Tap the snooze, alarm compels
Reach for smokes, my lighter flashing
Early dawn, through curling smoke
Assails my eyes, makes me groan
Lumber from bed with sigh and a moan
Late, so no coffee; just grab a Coke
Yawn. Reach for glasses. Pull on clothes.
Away to the car! Back for things I forgot
When I've got it all, speed from the parking lot
Angered and grumpy that traffic is slow.
Kinks in my arm, ringing in my head
Eyes fly open, and I curse. I'm still in bed.
